Given
the premise of installing a kindergarten within a pre-existing
building lacking significant architectural qualities, it was decided
to concentrate all technical and service areas within this structure.
For the remainder of the programme, a new attached system was
developed, based on modular prefabricated timber construction. Within
this system, all kindergarten rooms are shaped by natural light,
share the same construction module, and are connected by a continuous
gallery. As a whole, they create void outdoor spaces that form
protected courtyards, helping to dissolve the boundary between
interior and exterior learning environments.[PT]Partindo
da premissa da instalação de uma creche num edifício
pré-existente, sem grandes qualidades arquitectónicas,
optou-se por concentrar neste todas as partes técnicas e de
serviços, desenvolvendo, para o restante programa, um novo sistema
acoplado, baseado numa construção modular pré-fabricada em
madeira. Neste novo
sistema,
todas as salas da creche são moldadas pela luz natural, partilham
o
mesmo módulo construtivo e são unidas por uma galeria contínua. No
seu conjunto, criam espaços vazios que configuram pátios em
ambiente protegido, contribuindo para anular a fronteira entre os
espaços de ensino interiores e exteriores.

necessidade inusitada de criar um abrigo para galinhas na Quinta
Pedagógica de Serralves procurou-se a radicalidade no desenho dos
elementos mínimos.A
implantação rouba-se ao pragmatismo do edifícios agrícolas
existentes, que já tinham encontrado a melhor orientação solar.Sem
artifício, a composição que dá forma ao galinheiro e a sua
estrutura de suporte são um exercício de síntese e métrica ditada
pelas regras tectónicas
do
material e pelo controlo da escala da intervenção.A
peça é assim constituida por dois módulos simétricos que pousam
em seis blocos de granito assumindo a sua leveza e efemeridade e por
uma cobertura de duas águas em
zinco que
se projecta afirmativamente para fora dos limites do galinheiro. Por
fim a
cor - elemento essencial na composição, distingue os elementos e
sugere um diálogo com as restantes construções existentes.

antiga Quinta do Mata-Sete localizada no extremo sudoeste do Parque
de Serralves funciona hoje como quinta pedagógica da Fundação. Com
uma lógica pragmática ditada pela função agrícola distingue-se
do desenho geometrizado de influência francesa do restante parque. Este
projecto, surgido da necessidade de criação de um espaço
multifuncional dedicado a actividades pedagógicas da Quinta
localiza-se num ponto de charneira destas duas realidades.
Procurando
uma transformação mais perene do território, recorreu-se ao léxico
de materiais que já caracterizam o parque e a sua humanização,
propõe-se uma intervenção em dois gestos de transformação
elementares: com um conjunto de grandes blocos de granito desenha-se
um muro de baixa altura que pela sua geometria e relação com o
terreno permite a criação de um espaço naturalmente abrigado e
confinado num gesto mais telúrico do que arquitectónico, aludindo
às formas de transformação do território mais rudimentares como
os campos masseira do norte litoral de Portugal. Sobre este muro
surge uma cobertura de madeira que, soltando-se do plano do terreno
acaba de conter o espaço e desenha uma área de estufa fechada.
 A
presença da construção resulta serena na relação longínqua com
o parque, e dominadora na relação mais próxima que estabelece com
a horta produtiva para onde se abre. A
adaptabilidade da intervenção ao longo do tempo foi uma das
premissas do projecto. Se a cobertura, de materialidade mais efémera,
desaparecer, ficarão apenas muros de configuração do terreno como
parte integrante do vasto parque. Com
esta intervenção pretende-se que seja ampliado e reforçado o
carácter lúdico e
instrutivo da horta, informando
o
público acerca da
“natureza” da paisagem, enquanto coisa inevitavelmente
construída.

[PT]Uma
peça de betão preenche a
casa pelo seu interior, encaixando-se
dentro das paredes das antigas
fachadas. Num gesto só,
procura resolver
o aumento e relações da volumetria da cobertura, o ambiente
identitário, háptico, do interior, a comunicação espacial desde o
último piso até ao
logradouro e a relação de toda a casa com este espaço exterior.
Resolve ainda de
forma clara a relação,
sempre difícil,
ora
de aproximação ora
de distanciamento, entre os
elementos pré-existentes e os
novos.

Todo
o espaço, toda a casa, vai atrás do gesto deste corpo duro. A
partir da entrada, num momento marcado pelo pé-direito comprimido,
estabelece relação franca com o logradouro num movimento muito
horizontalizado e, num outro mais vertical, com o núcleo das
escadas, um vazio que une todos os pisos e todos os seus espaços. No
conjunto desses espaços aparentemente pequenos e rígidos, próprios
de uma casa desta escala, integram-se quatro espaços
propositadamente grandes e de programa flexível, à medida dos dias
de hoje: uma cozinha maior do que a sala, um espaço polivalente sem
programa definido, uma plataforma exterior à espera de ser
reinventada e um jardim que poderá tudo ser mas que, só por ali
estar, povoa o interior da casa através dos janelões a sul.

À
dureza do betão, que resolve todo o espaço, associa-se a madeira,
que devolve a temperatura própria do habitar. Em conjunto desenham
um “ser e estar sobre a terra”, no espírito do velho texto de
Heidegger. O tempo flui, tal como os discursos, mas hoje, como
sempre, construindo e habitando, ou vice-versa, somos sempre, somos simplesmente.

The building occupies a vacant plot on a street with a continuous frontage. Its volumetric configuration responds to the neighboring buildings, attempting to reconcile their differing heights and depths. As a result, the lower floors gain depth and take on a sculpted form, alternately creating interior and exterior spaces. The upper floors lose volume, forming terraces that extend the interior spaces. The 19 flats are designed in a simple manner. The sleeping areas are clearly defined. The common spaces are conceived as a continuous space, although the articulation of the walls suggests different areas of occupation. The building is clad in a ceramic covering designed specifically for this project, featuring an asymmetrical relief that gives the façades different textures through the simple incidence of light.

edifício ocupa um lote expectante

A sua configuração volumétrica reage aos edifícios vizinhos,
tentando
colmatar as
diferentes alturas e profundidades. Como resultado, os primeiros
pisos ganham profundidade e desenham-se de forma recortada,
criando alternadamente espaços interiores e espaços exteriores. Os
últimos pisos perdem volume, desenhando
terraços que prolongam os espaços interiores. Os
19 apartamentos desenham-se de forma simples. Os espaços de dormir
apresentam-se claramente definidos. Os espaços comuns desenham-se
como um espaço contínuo,
ainda que o recorte das paredes sugira diferentes lugares de
ocupação. O
edifício veste-se com um revestimento cerâmico desenhado para este
projeto, com um
alto-relevo assimétrico, conferindo às fachadas diferentes texturas
através
da simples incidência da luz.

The
old
house of Quinta do Lódão, located in an agricultural area in the
Douro region, whose architectural interest had already been lost
for
a long time by the several
changes that it underwent throughout its life, was
the perfect starting point to the project.
It
was intended to carry out a renovation and expansion that would
restore the
house’s
identity and provide a better use of the exterior space.
The
plot,
narrow and long, reduced
and
conditioned
the
chances of implantation, synthesizing the intervention in two
moments: alteration of the pre-existing house and new expansion
volume.
In
this transformation, the radicality of the archetype was
searched, recovering
the expression
of the stone and the sloped
roof which, through an extensive projected
eave, restores the harmony of the facade.In
a design that is intended to be contemporary, the entire existing building
was painted in the same color, mixing the textures of the granite and
the concrete additions giving
the
roof the role of uniting the entire intervention through its
materiality, making the bridge with the volume of the expansion,
which is assumed in exposed
concrete with an improbable design and form.
The
new volume
reproduces the shape of the existing building and
at the same time flees
from it in search of the view over the river.The
two volumes are separated by a gap
that
creates a unique point of view bringing the Douro to the entrance of
the house.

The alignment of the enclosed spaces on the ground floor is given by
the extension in an annex volume existing in the patio and marked by
a large pre-existing wooden beam, re-located and integrated in the
current composition. The remaining space is open space and divided
into two distinct areas, a reception area, next to the entrance, and
a breakfast area to the rear. The stone portal
existing on the ground floor on the rear elevation was kept as a
framework to connect the main body to the patio. The existing annex,
connected to the main body on the ground floor, now integrates a
winter garden that extends the social areas of the building and
expands its relationship with the living space/garden created in the
patio. On the upper floors
there are 8 double rooms in groups of 2, all of them similar and with
private bathrooms, each group facing one of the elevations.
Due to the
impossibility of maintaining the existing rear elevation on these
floors, it was rebuilt maintaining the characteristic compositional
logic of the historical buildings, both in the proportion of the
spans beyond which new balconies are supported, and in the material
definition of the façade with mimetic marking in different textures
of the finish of a stonework that clings to the metal guarding
element. Constructively, the
building finds a harmony between the use of traditional materials and
pre-existing elements such as wood and stone, with contemporary
construction methods. Some materials and
elements of interest were reused after the demolition as part of the
new composition, such as the large wooden beams on the ground floor
or the arrangement of the outdoor spaces.

The floor slabs are
new, although they are a reinterpretation of the traditional floor
slabs typical of 18th and 19th century bourgeois construction of
Porto. Thus, they are composed of a new wooden beam linked to a
concrete slab on which new layers are added to guarantee the
regulatory safety and acoustic requirements.The roof and
skylight structure, rebuilt using a wooden structure according to
traditional techniques, are left bare on the top floor, thus
enhancing the interior space.Simultaneously, the
spaciousness of the ground floor is emphasized with a continuous
concrete floor that emerges as both the start of the staircase and
the lintel supporting the wooden pillars on the ground floor. The
existing textures were the starting point for the creation of the new
atmosphere: these now appear in the traditional masses that shape the
stone walls of the common areas, as well as in the bush-hammered
concrete that continues the texture of the granite of the outer walls
of the rear elevation.

A
Rua de Pinto Bessa, localizada na franja oriental da cidade do Porto
foi traçada no final do Sec XIX como via estruturante de ligação
da cidade consolidada
à estação de Campamnhã. A sua importância traduziu-se no desenho
do seu generoso perfil que aspirava a construção e a densificação
em altura das suas duas frentes.
Este
bloco de habitação vem completar essa intenção urbana.
Ocupando uma parcela de terreno expectante numa rua
que procura ainda o cumprimento do seu desígnio, ergue-se
em toda a largura do lote, aproveitando a altura definida pelas
construções vizinhas
e criando uma nova métrica de fachada que respeita a proporção
vertical que respeita as regras da envolvente.
O
edifício
tem um desenho cru e honesto que mostra a estrutura que o
suporta,intercalada com panos de vidro que pretendem maximizar a
entrada de luz e ampliar as hipóteses de ocupação interior. No
limite talvez possamos
considerar que se
desenha
um “osso” para o qual se propõe uma compartimentação que o
tempo pode alterar.Os
alçados reagem à envolvente e à exposição solar. A
Norte, voltado
para
a Rua de Pinto Bessa, cria-se uma grelha estrutural em betão
aparente assente num embasamento também
em
betão, aqui
amaciado. O
piso
de remate,
assume a excepção e a transição entre os edifícios vizinhos. A
sul – para o logradouro – aos grandes envidraçados que permitem
tirar partido da luz solar justapõe-se uma estrutura metálica que
une as varandas de profundidade variável. Estas varandas, que
prolongam generosamente o espaço de habitar para o exterior, criam
um jogo expressivo que maximiza a captação solar da área exterior
e controlam a exposição solar dos espaços interiores.
Ao
longo dos 7 pisos que se elevam do solo, aponta-se a possibilidade
de acomodar 17 apartamentos, 3 em cada piso tipo, e dois de excepção
nos limites inferior e superior do prédio. Assume-se toda a
compartimentação associada à malha estrutural como efémera,
oferecendo ao edifício a possibilidade de ajuste a novas
configurações.
